Terms, Conditions & Warranty Policy

This page outlines the complete Terms and Conditions and the Solar Installation & Roofing Warranty Policy for SureTek Electric & Technologies Ltd. (“SureTek”). By accepting an estimate, scheduling work, or paying any invoice, the client agrees to all provisions outlined below.

SECTION A: Estimate Validity Terms

1. Validity Period
Estimates are valid for 30 days unless otherwise noted. SureTek reserves the right to revise or withdraw an estimate at any time.

2. Scope of Work
The estimate includes only explicitly listed items. Additional work as directed by the customer either verbally or in writing may incur additional costs.

3. Price Adjustments
Prices may be adjusted due to unforeseen conditions, material changes, or updated code requirements.

4. Compliance with Codes & Standards
All work complies with current local, provincial, and national safety codes. Changes to requirements after estimate issuance may affect scope or cost.

5. Deposit Requirements
A deposit may be required to confirm scheduling. Progress payments may be requested based on project milestones.

6. Liability for Pre-Existing Conditions
SureTek is not responsible for issues related to pre-existing conditions, workmanship by others, or hidden defects.

SECTION B: Job Terms & Conditions

1. Scope of Work
Work is based on the approved estimate or signed job description. Changes must be approved in writing.

2. Compliance, Permits & Inspections
SureTek will obtain required electrical permits unless otherwise stated in writing. When a permit and inspection is included, it will be explicitly listed on the estimate. If not listed, the estimate is based on the understanding that a permit is not required for the originally scoped work.

The client acknowledges that during the course of the project, the scope may evolve — and in some cases, previously unpermitted work may become permit-requiring. In such cases, SureTek reserves the right to add applicable permit fees and associated costs to the final invoice, following notification.

SureTek is responsible for work that complies with the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC). However, we are not liable for requirements imposed by local building, development, or planning authorities that fall outside the scope of the CEC. This includes items governed by building code, such as electric heating requirements, smoke/CO alarms, and mechanical ventilation — particularly in owner-led renovations such as basement developments.

The client is responsible for contacting SureTek after completion of work to coordinate a suitable inspection date. The client or resident must be available between 8:00 AM and 4:30 PM on the scheduled day to provide access to the inspector. SureTek does not attend inspections and will not provide site access on behalf of the homeowner.

Missed inspections, or failure to provide access during a confirmed appointment, may result in re-inspection fees from the authority having jurisdiction. These fees are the responsibility of the client and will not be covered by SureTek.

The client is also responsible for ensuring the worksite is accessible for inspection and that existing systems and infrastructure are safe and compliant where they interface with SureTek’s work.

Any deficiencies cited during inspection that relate to pre-existing wiring, prior renovations, or issues outside SureTek’s quoted scope may require additional corrective work at extra cost.

3. Payment Terms
All invoices are due upon receipt unless otherwise agreed in writing.

Overdue balances are subject to 3% monthly interest (36% annually).

SureTek reserves the right to store credit card or payment method information provided at the time of deposit or estimate acceptance. The customer acknowledges and authorizes SureTek to charge the stored payment method for:

  • The remaining balance due on approved estimates
  • Any overdue invoices
  • Any applicable late fees or re-inspection charges

By providing a payment method (credit card, e-transfer, or other electronic means), the customer expressly consents to SureTek using that method to charge for the approved scope of work, deposits, or final invoices.

SureTek will make reasonable efforts to notify the client prior to charging a stored payment method, especially in cases of overdue balances.

4. Installation Risks & Damage
SureTek takes reasonable care during installation but is not responsible for drywall, insulation, vapor barriers, or cosmetic damage unless specified in the scope.

5. General Warranty (Non-Solar)
A 1-year labour warranty is provided on general electrical and non-solar contracting work for materials and workmanship.

6. Material Responsibility
Materials and equipment delivered to the site become the client’s responsibility. SureTek is not liable for theft, damage, or loss post-delivery.

7. Site Access
The client must provide access to water, power, sanitary facilities, and the site during business hours. Delays due to access issues may result in added charges.

8. Insurance & Liability
SureTek maintains commercial liability insurance but is not liable for incidental or consequential damages beyond the work scope. The client agrees to indemnify SureTek except in cases of gross negligence.

9. Work by Others
SureTek is not responsible for prior work done by others. Any resulting issues may incur additional charges.

10. Scope Changes & Adjustments
If the work scope changes due to site conditions or client requests, costs may be adjusted accordingly with notice.

11. Dispute Resolution
Disputes will first be addressed via direct communication. If unresolved, a third-party mediator or arbitrator may be engaged.

12. Termination
SureTek reserves the right to terminate any project for safety or contractual breaches. Clients may cancel in writing but are responsible for all work completed up to the termination date.

SECTION C: Solar Installation & Roofing Warranty Policy

1. SureTek Workmanship Warranty (5 Years)
Covers electrical and mechanical installation, racking and panel alignment, and labour for warranty-related service work during this period.

2. Manufacturer Equipment Warranty
All solar components are covered under the original manufacturer’s warranty based on the exact models installed. SureTek does not assume or extend any manufacturer warranties beyond what the manufacturer offers.

Typical warranty coverage includes:
– Thornova modules: 15-year product warranty
– Longi modules: 25-year product warranty
– APsystems microinverters: 25-year product warranty

Some modules may also include a 30-year power output performance guarantee (typically 87% minimum after 30 years). Coverage varies by product and will follow the manufacturer’s specifications.

SureTek will support manufacturer warranty claims by assisting with documentation and coordination of replacements, both during and after the 5-year SureTek workmanship warranty period.

Labour for replacements after the 5-year SureTek coverage may be billed unless specifically covered by the manufacturer.

Exceptions:
– APsystems ECU (communication gateway) is only covered by a 1-year limited warranty and is not included in the extended microinverter warranty.

All components are warrantied according to the manufacturer’s published terms.

3. Ongoing System Support (Post-Warranty)
SureTek supports all systems installed for their operational life, including diagnostics, service, and warranty claim support.

4. Roofing & Structural Disclaimer
SureTek is not responsible for roofing issues unless a SureTek-managed roofing package is included. Roofs must have 8+ years of life before solar install unless otherwise approved. Cedar shake roofs require a waiver.

5. Roof Removal & Reinstallation
Removal and reinstallation due to roofing work is billable unless tied to a covered failure. Insurance claims or reroofing due to age are not included.

6. System Performance & Proposal Disclaimer
All solar production estimates, financial projections, credit calculations, and environmental impacts provided by SureTek — whether generated using software platforms like Aurora Solar or any other tool — are for illustrative and proposal purposes only.

SureTek makes no guarantees, either express or implied, regarding:
– Final system output or energy production
– Annual savings or financial returns
– Bill credits or export compensation from the utility
– Net metering outcomes, rate structures, or environmental benefits

The customer is solely responsible for:
– Selecting and switching to the appropriate utility rate plans
– Understanding how utility policies affect credit eligibility and savings

Production and ROI estimates do not form any part of a legally binding agreement.

7. Warranty Exclusions
Excludes acts of nature, customer misuse, third-party modifications, roof failure, or pre-existing conditions.

8. Governing Law
This agreement is governed by the laws of the Province of Alberta, Canada.

9. Structural & Building Code Disclaimer
SureTek provides solar installation services based on the presumption that the structure is suitable for solar panel installation under applicable electrical and utility interconnection standards.

SureTek does not evaluate roof structural integrity or load-bearing capacity. If a building or development permit is required and denied due to structural limits, SureTek is not liable for any consequences or redesign costs.

SureTek does not assess roofing condition. If a system is installed on an old or failing roof, any future damage or issues are the client’s responsibility unless a roof replacement was included in the contract.
